Interests

I have a deep passion for African dance, specifically the dance from Guinea, West Africa. I began my studies in 2005 with a fruitful journey to Guinea and have returned several times, growing as a dancer and person. I now manage my husbands West African dance and drum company, helping him in all aspects of the business; from creating custom advertisements to leading workshops. http://www.douniadjembe.com/

I love to dabble in the arts and recently have found myself working in digital photography. You can look at some of my stuff at www.jcamaraphotography.blogspot.com/

If I am not doing Pilates you may find me out in the Issaquah Alps hiking! Hiking has been a passion that has stayed with me whereever I live; be it Crested Butte, Colorado, the Haleakala Crater of Maui or Dharamsala, India!

Education

THE EVERGREEN STATE COLLEGE
Graduated Fall 2003 with Bachelor of Arts

TESC's extensive use of interdiciplinary education and group projects gives me an edge. I am quickly able to take "static" knowledge and apply it to life. TESC's teaching philosophy has inspired me to really apply "textbook" anatomy to Pilates and Yoga as well as to push the boundaries that separate the two disciplines.
I am also looking at how to redefine/reinterpret the culture of Pilates from a mainly european-american practice to one that invites and inspires people of all ethnic backgrounds.

Areas of academic focus at TESC include:
- Art theory
- English Language and American Literature.
- Native American Studies.
- Natural Science
